19 young people participated in the re-enactment of a court trial based on an actual case. The event was organized by International Youth Center-Burgas, District Court-Burgas and Region Court-Burgas. The participants were representatives of five Burgas high schools: AEG “Geo Milev”, NEG “Goethe”, PPGM “Acad. Nikola Obreshkov”, PGKPI and SU “Yordan Yovkov”. They were carefully selected to take on different roles of lawyers, judges and prosecutors etc.
Judge Anatoli Bobokov from the Burgas District Court was their mentor in the training process. Within two weeks, he gathered the young enthusiasts in a courtroom four times. During those meetings, everyone got their roles assigned, read the script on which the trial was played out, and had time to rehearse the re-enactment.
Now, about the court trial itself: it was based on a real case, concerning a hassle between three people, which ended with moderate bodily injury.
The efforts of the participants paid off impressively and there performance was excellent on the day of the re-enactment. The Hall of the Burgas Courthouse was packed with students and court employees, who came to watch the youngsters perform.
The goal of the re-enactment was to introduce young people into the real works of a court trial and let them experience what it actually means to be a lawyer, a judge and so on. We believe that this journey was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about Law Science through non-formal education.
