Zelenika Club for Traditional Folk Dances
30 September 2026 @ 19:00 - 20:00
“Zelenika” Club for Traditional Bulgarian Dances and Games was founded on May 2, 2022. “Zelenika” is one of the few clubs in Bulgaria dedicated to preserving the traditional dances of the Bulgarian people in their authentic form, as passed down from the times of our ancestors. The club draws knowledge from historical archives and folk traditions, while bringing forgotten dance forms from Bulgaria’s rich folk dance heritage back to life.
The club also includes a newly established children’s dance school, which follows the principles of maintaining physical well-being, studying authentic regional dance styles, and delivering high-quality stage performances.
The founder of the “Zelenika” Club for Traditional Bulgarian Dances and Games is Yani Angelov. In 2017, he graduated from the “Philip Kutev” National School of Folk Arts in Kotel as a professional Bulgarian folk dancer. In 2021, he graduated from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts “Prof. Asen Diamandiev” in Plovdiv as a choreographer and pedagogue, obtaining a Master’s degree in Arts Management.
To this day, Yani Angelov works as a professional dancer with the Strandzha Professional Folklore Ensemble in Burgas, teaches in his field, and works as a guest choreographer, creating dance pieces for various dance ensembles across Bulgaria.
Beyond learning and practicing traditional dances, “Zelenika” is a place where a community is built around a shared love of Bulgarian traditions. Participants have the opportunity to take part in cultural and festive events, festivals, and local celebrations. In this way, they not only develop their dancing skills but also help promote Bulgaria’s rich dance heritage to a wider audience. This creates a unique atmosphere of mutual learning, respect, and creative inspiration.
