International Youth Center Burgas enters the world of hackathons

On the 5th and 6th of November, the International Youth Center entered the world of the Hackathons. The event was organized in cooperation with „Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University” Burgas. The theme of the hackathon was “Cybersecurity in Education”. Eleven teams, with a total of forty participants joined the challenge. They had two days to develop technological solutions to test and protect against cyber attacks.

During the closing event, all teams presented their ideas, talked in detail about their projects and demonstrated their functionality. Among the prototypes were a cybersecurity training portal, browser extension blocking malware, applications deleting all data from previous sessions and other intriguing and useful ideas. Jury of university teachers and professionals in the IT field, chaired by Prof. Stanislav Simeonov from the Department of Computer Systems and Technology awarded the best performing teams, including several special awards.

Inkblot Studio (VSCPI, PMG “Acad.Nikola Obreshkov”) ranked first. They impressed the jury not only with the idea and its execution, but also with presentation skills and charisma. The project they presented is a free app that protects students’ accounts and alerts them if they need a password change.

The second place was shared by the teams Lambda and Secure Class

The teams CyberSafe, Cookie Monsters and MBT ranked third.

Special awards for original ideas were awarded to:

– h5n1: Strong password

– Shkola Hustle: in help of the learning process 

– Baby got hack: High-tech idea

– The script: Best hacking tool

– Sigma: Original idea
