Мaria Salabasheva is appointed Managing Director of the International Youth Center

Five candidates made it to the last stage of the selection process for the International Youth Center’s Managing Director position, where Maria Salabasheva stood out from the competition.

Maria is a person with cross-cultural experience and interdisciplinary approach. She is a journalist and a classical pianist with two Master’s degrees obtained in Bulgaria and the US. In recent years, she has served as Editor in Chief at Burgas’ Channel Zero regional television. Her professional interests are rooted in classical music, archeoastronomy, ecology, biodiversity, and innovations.

Some of Maria’s professional achievements include the 2015 Biodiversity Foundation Special Award in the “Best Reportage on Bulgarian Wildlife Preservation” category for her investigation on the British egg collector Jan Ross, who was convicted in Bulgaria for endangering protected bird species. She was also awarded the 2016 Bulgarian Society for Protecting of Birds (BSPB) Special Award for contributing to the prevention of wildlife crime.

Maria’s experience in the youth sector includes an annual Internet security training for children, jointly implemented with the Burgas Municipality and the Local Commission for Prevention of Antisocial Behavior of Minors.

The International Youth Center is implemented under the “Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Enhanced Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups” Program, funded by the 2014-2021 EEA FM.
