Week of the weeks or thematic days in youth education

One of the most exciting weeks in school education has passed. The days between November 13th and 17th became a thematic time for learning and consolidating new knowledge in the fields of healthcare and entrepreneurial sciences. The team of the International Youth Center – Burgas worked with young people from two emblematic schools in Bourgas – Secondary School “Episkop Konstantin Preslavski” and Profiled High School for Foreign Languages “Vasil Levski”. Workshops and trainings were organized in the field, aiming to develop and complement important competencies and skills of the young people.

On the 13th and 15th of November, we visited Secondary School “Episkop Konstantin Preslavski” on the occasion of “World Entrepreneurship Week”. The event was also part of the Junior Achievement Bulgaria (JA) calendar. The participants in the trainings were students, specializing in the field of e-commerce and tour guiding. They had the opportunity to apply their competencies in a real work environment. In the two-day marathon, the youth workers presented a learning module covering the principles and essentials of CV writing, complete with a re-enactment of a job interview. The young people got acquainted with the set of qualities and skills that both parties in the job search process (the seeker and the offerer) need to possess. They then stepped into the roles of interviewer and applicant for a job position. This activity overturned their perceptions of a real work environment. At the end of the event, the participants gave feedback, saying that along with the positive emotions, they left the training more informed and prepared. The young people also shared that with the prepared autobiographies they plan to organize exhibition that will become an example of a creative interpretation of entrepreneurial events.

November 14th is World Diabetes Day. We marked the important date by participating in the health forum for the occasion organized by the High School for Foreign Languages “Vasil Levski”. The focus of the event fell on a healthy lifestyle and addiction prevention measures. The youth workers held a discussion with the students, aiming to explore their opinions on pressing topics, as well as to form critical thinking in them. The aim was to reinforce the importance of good physical and mental health, and the fight against addictions by building a positive attitude, giving publicity to problems and pointing out possible solutions. The students created posters expressing their views on maintaining health in all of its forms.

Youth work is extremely important, especially during the thematic days in youth education. The educational events put an emphasis on forming a strong educational culture among the youth. Undoubtedly, this is a good and sustainable way to mark the days that are important to all of us.
