We did a workshop for ideas under the name “What is a youth initiative and does it have ground in Burgas” . The main topic of the event was the current problems affecting the youth of Burgas and their solutions. Young people had the opportunity to identify problems, understand what their roots are and think about how they would solve them.
Young people participated from the following schools: AEG “Geo Milev”, German Language High School “Goethe”, PGT “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”, PGCE “Vasil Levski”, PGRE “G. S. Rakovski”, Vocational High School of Computer Programming and Innovation, PPMG “Acad. Nikola Obreshkov” and University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”. We are happy to note that a large part of the participants are representatives of student councils.
We introduced the term Youth Initiative, we asked ourselves if it has ground in our country. And turns out, yes, there is! One of the great examples of a youth initiative is Green Nemska – originated in the student council of the Goethe German Language High School. Through this project, they aim to raise important topics related to ecology and sustainability, as well as to create an open classroom in their yard.
We want to see more youth initiatives, this is the main reason we are doing this workshop. We believe that young people have the energy, creativity and willingness to change the things they don’t like about their environment. We, from the International Youth Center-Burgas, will support them in this endeavour and provide them with a space to express themselves.
And in this regard, the event was also an occasion to mention that we are about to announce a competition for youth initiatives. It will give young people the opportunity to propose and implement events and initiatives of public and social significance for their peers on the territory of the Burgas municipality.
