Inspired by the desire for a more sustainable future and responsible care for the environment, we held a three-day Social and Health Campus on the topic “How Plastic Affects the Environment.”
The event took place in a picturesque seaside setting and brought together young people, youth workers, and educational mediators from across Bulgaria, united by one common cause – reducing plastic waste, encouraging recycling, and giving new life to old materials.
📍 Participants included representatives from:
Youth Center Gotse Delchev
Youth Home Sliven
International Youth Center Pernik
Black Sea Youth Center Varna
Youth Center Pomorie
The strong participation from different regions turned the event into a true platform for sharing experiences, ideas, and inspiration.
👨🔬 Educational and Practical Program
The program was carefully designed to combine scientific knowledge, practical skills, and inspiring real-life examples. Key highlights included:
🔹 Visit to the PlanetUm Science Center – participants immersed themselves in the world of science through interactive installations, engaging talks, and film screenings related to pollution and ecology.
🔹 Lecture by ecologist Dimitar Popov from Green Balkans NGO – “What Do We Know About the Black Sea’s Ecology?” – focused attention on specific ecological issues in the Black Sea and explored possible solutions.
🔹 Case discussions with experts Maria Nedeva and Rousen Gigov – participants explored real environmental challenges and sustainable solutions, with an emphasis on youth activism and civic engagement.
🛠️ Workshop: “A Second Chance for Household Waste”
The practical part of the event was led by Georgi Atanasov and Anelia Asenova – inspiring lecturers with extensive experience in sustainability and creative recycling. During the workshop:
Young participants created beautiful and functional items from used plastic and cardboard
Developed creative thinking and responsible consumption habits
Discovered that even the simplest waste can be transformed into something new with imagination and the will to change
