During the past week, our team had the opportunity to organise several trainings at high school for foreign languages “Vasil Levski”. he topics of each training was selected specifically according to the needs of the youth.
With the youngest students – eighth grade, we talked about “Critical Thinking and Safe Internet.” Our colleague Mihail shared the experience he gained while working in the media. He explained how we can identify fake news and presented several tools for checking the credibility of online content. In the exercise that followed, the youth were able to recognize all the fake articles presented to them and unerringly weed out the real news.
In the ninth grade, our mediators – Anelia and Violeta presented techniques for avoiding and solving conflict situations. With their help, the young people sought a solution to several complicated cases, with prerequisites for an escalation of tension. By placing themselves in the fictional situation, they were able to develop conflict coping mechanisms that would serve them in the event of a real need.
During the training in the tenth grade, students learned the most important principles of human rights, became familiar with the universal declaration of human rights and the mechanisms of protection against violation of these rights. In a spontaneous discussion, the participants themselves suggested examples for discussion and indicated where, how and which rights were violated in the given scenario. The topic of human rights and their protection is very important for us, and the fact that young people recognize it as interesting, important and meaningful for them makes us extremely happy.
With the eldest students from eleventh and twelfth grade, that are about to jump into the future and dive into the world of adults, we discussed the “First job” topic. The training was conducted by Julieta and Venzi, who used their knowledge as an experienced HR and psychology graduate to prepare the youth for their first steps in the work feeld. In addition to how to prepare and present themselves for an interview, they also received practical advice on writing a CV – the first and most important step in finding a job.
We are happy that we had the chance to meet so many kind and curious young people. We sincerely thank the management and teachers of high school for foreign languages “Vasil Levski” for the opportunity and the cooperation. We hope this series of trainings is just the first of many joint activities!
